I learned, recently, that I was in violation of one of the rules at the Bondage Ranch. Specifically, Rule No. 3 - No Advertising. I was instructed to change and/or remove my group title by a very happy Bondage Ranch Administrator. I, of course, complied but was more than a little confused as I looked around the Bondage Ranch. There, in front of me, was a sea of group titles on display. Some of these titles where purely personal, but many were commercial. Blatantly commercial, in fact.

In my case, my group title was simply :idoleo.com: Yes, I am a designer and terraformer in 2nd Life, but am not really selling anything. If you are here and reading my web site and blog you know it covers many different topics and aspects of my online presence and life in and out 2nd Life. 

When I inquired about the other commercial group titles and if these patrons would be asked to change or remove them? I was told… No and… The discussion is over. I must say, that surprised me a bit. I can only assume the Administrator in question was very busy.

So, in an effort to help the Bondage Ranch, its administrators, and the staff, I thought I would start compiling a list of commercial group titles that clearly break Rule No. 3. by advertising or promoting other sims in 2nd Life, 2nd Life businesses, and patrons’ personal projects. Before I do, though, I would like to clarify what Rule No. 3 is by directly citing it from the a Picks tab in the Administrator’s profile that required me to change my title. It is as follows:

NO ADVERTISING - No taking money. No soliciting. No products. No ads. No hover text or active tags for ads/$/escorting. 1 month ban.

That rule seems pretty clear and I am happy to comply. That said… There does seem to be a lot of patrons at the Bondage Ranch not aware of Rule No. 3. Not surprising since it does not seem to be enforced with any constancy. 

Before I get to the list, though, I would like to say… It seems to me, if preventing advertising is really a priority and an issue at the Bondage Ranch (or any area like the Bondage Ranch), the easiest way to enforce the rule is simple… Require all patrons and guests to 1) belong to a group and 2) wear the group title while visiting. Just food for thought…

I was shocked to learn today that I was in violation of the rules for the Bondage Ranch. Thankfully, a very happy Bondage Ranch Administrator informed me of that violation and showed me the errors of my ways. I stand corrected and now am hopefully in full compliance with the regulations of the Bondage Ranch.

As a result of my violation, I thought this would be a good opportunity to review the posted rules of the Bondage Ranch. Clearly, if I, a patron of the Bondage Ranch for many years, was in violation the rules, others might be as well. This is especially true considering the usual place I stand is by the posted rules. So… Lets review:

1. No Assault. Follow the Linden Lab Terms of Service.
2. Cooperate with the Bondage Ranch Administrators and Police.
3. No Advertising (this is the one I broke).
4. Read Profiles.
5. Be Nice.
6. Remove Rezzed Items When Done.

As I stated above, I was in violation of Rule No. 3 which clearly states there is no advertising at the Bondage Ranch. I had mistakenly thought that one of my :Doleo: group titles listing this web site, idoleo.com, was okay to wear. The Administrator at the Bondage Ranch, however, informed me that was not the case and, in fact, was not acceptable.

When I was informed of my violation, I changed my group title immediately to comply, or tried. Unfortunately, I was slow to do so because I have been testing the new Linden Labs 2.0 Viewer. With some stern motivation and direction from the Administrator, I finally was able to change my title from :idoleo.com: to BR Rules-Broke #3. Once done… Everything was right as rain :)

I know the administrators and staff at the Bondage Ranch must be very busy because I noticed other patrons there with clear advertising violations in their profile titles too. When I pointed that fact out and inquired if these patrons would also be brought into compliance with the rules, I was informed… No, in a word.

With the above in mind, I would like to do my part and help the Bondage Ranch with identifying other profile titles that are in clear violation of their Rule No. 3. I mean… who better to keep a list of non-compliant titles than a person that was mistakenly in violation but is now compliant?

So, in a day or two, I will start a blog post listing profile titles that violate the “No Advertising Policy” of the Bondage Ranch rules. It is my hope, it will be a benefit to both the administrators and staff of the Bondage Ranch, as well as those patrons that might unknowingly be breaking the rules.
